ARTIST'S STATEMENT: My practice is strongly rooted historical research and metalsmithing process; sheets of silver are transformed into hollow pieces that are unnervingly light for the volume they embody. This series, adamant, focuses on historical and contemporary diamond mining practices and the vast dedication of resources allocated to and infrastructure created for the mines found miles from civilization. Based on imagery of the largest diamond mine in Mirny, Siberia, stepped walls taper to the base of the mine where ultimately one finds not a diamond but oneself through the void in the floor of the mine that passes through the ring shank.
